The hamlet of Joussard has a volunteer fire department with 11 volunteers. Under the direction of Fire Chief Henry Brown the Joussard Volunteer fire department provides fire protection services for the Hamlet of Joussard and surrounding area.

"In 2003 the Joussard Fire Hall underwent major renovations and construction. The Joussard Fire Hall is know known as the Joussard Municipal Services Facility and houses the following:

•Joussard Volunteer Fire Department
•MD Fire Chief
•Administration Support for Fire and FCS
•MD Director of Family and Community Services
•MD Joussard Family and Community Services worker

REGIONAL FIRE TRAINING CENTER
The Joussard Municipal Services Facility is the regional fire training center for all MD Fire Departments and any other events as deemed by the MD of Big Lakes.

MD FIRE TANKER
The MD has allotted a truck bay for our 2500gal tanker which when requested will respond to emergency response requests anywhere in the MD of Big Lakes to provide water support to fire ground operations.

BREATHING AIR COMPRESSOR/CASCADE SYSTEM
The MD has also installed a breathing air compressor and a cascade system to provide breathing air for all MD fire departments.

BACKUP EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER
The MD of Big Lakes main Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is located at the MD of Big Lakes Operations Building in High Prairie. In the event this EOC cannot be utilized due to an evacuation of the area or power failure the MD has installed a 50 KW generator at the Joussard Municipal Services Facility. This facility can operate 100% with backup power and is the backup EOC for the MD of Big Lakes."
