St John's Anglican Cathedral, Parramatta was established as a church in 1802 making it the oldest continuous church site in Australia.

St John's is close to the civic heart of Parramatta being in close proximity to the Church St Mall precinct as well as the Parramatta Town Hall. It attained Cathedral status in more recent times. The church building is not the original, the current main building being a replacement for an earlier one destroyed by fire. The different finish of the two steeples is partly a result of them surviving the fire.
The cathdedral is surrounded by well tended gardens and lawns, and many a picnic rug has been spread on the lawns for a quiet lunch.
The main church building is flanked by more recent church offices, halls etc, but these do not not have the attractive architecture of the main building.
