Mustang / Mesteño by Luis Jiménez is one of the most controversial art pieces in Denver today. It was installed in 2008 by his sons; Jiménez was killed when part of this 32-foot tall sculpture fell and pinned him against a steel beam causing the severing of his femoral artery. He died on the way to the hospital, 28 miles away. The artist is well known for using southwest heritage and powerful colors to express his interpretation of the topic. The selection of the mustang is a blend of the fact that horses were the original long-distance transport of prior history and the southwestern myth of the Pacing White Horse (visit link) . Here is a recent article discussing the piece (visit link) .

This piece is in excellent condition as it has only been exposed to the elements for a few years and no one can actually 'visit' the piece. Part of its 'spookiness' is that you can only glance at it going 55 miles per hour. There is really no time to safely enjoy the work.

This piece is located at the main entrance to Denver's International Airport. This piece was originally to be installed on an island with benches and parking to better view the piece, but 9-11 security concerns scuttled those plans. This is a drive-by Waymark as that is the only way you may see the piece. Visit (visit link) for professional photos.
