Behind the Department of Conservation Camping Ground at Broken Hills, at the Puketui Road end, is some wonderful swimming holes. Just turn off State Highway 25 at Hikuai and travel 4 km up Puketui Road. The majestic high cliffs with native bush, large boulders in the river, some sandy beaches makes it the perfect swimming destination.
