The Whitman Mission National Historic Site preserves the site of the historic Whitman Mission where the Whitman Massacre of 1847 occurred. The Historic Site also includes the mass grave where Marcus and Narcissa Whitman are buried and the Whitman memorial shaft.
The Visitor Center is the primary public contact point for the National Historic Site. The Visitor Center contains a small museum, auditorium, and book store. The park grounds are open daily from dawn to dusk and the Visitor Center is open daily, except for Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, with hours varying by season.
Off Road Directions: The Visitor Center is located about 6 miles WSW of downtown Walla Walla, Washington. Take U.S. Hwy. 12 west to Swegle Road, then turn south for a half mile, then turn east on Whitman Mission Road to the Visitor Center.
