200 years and change we've stood
Under banners of Freedom and Brotherhood
We may quarrel like cats in a 'family way'
But still, in the end, I'm proud to say
I call this Country, warts and all --
The United States, MY port of call.
But a Nation can't stand without those who Serve
So a prayer and salute to those who deserve
Remembrance on more than just holidays
May peace come at last -- and Good Will guide our ways.

Hey, I can hope...

I remember the flurry of activity around the US Bicentennial. In fact, my folks and I went on a 40 day trip through the US in April of 1776. Though our looping route from NE California to Alabama/Kentucky and back did pass through Texas, we stayed to the I-10 and missed Belton. Well. I'm a frequent visiter to Belton now, and while strolling the Courthouse grounds discovered this lovely little marker from that Bicentennial year.
