Who was Humpty Dumpty? When did the phrase first begin? No one is certain, however most children know the nursery rhyme that was first published in 1810.

The earliest reference to the commonly known nursery rhyme was published in 1810. However, the term 'Humpty Dumpty' dates back to the 1600s. Still it is not clear what Humpty Dumpty was specifically referring to.
