A visually impressive building. The former Supreme Court Building was constructed in 1939. It was designed by the architect Frank Ward. It was to be the last major piece of British architecture constructed in the city. During the Japanese occupation (1942-5) the building was used as a Japanese military court, but following liberation it was returned to its original function and housed the Supreme Court of Singapore until 2005. By 2012, along with the neighbouring former City Hall building, it will house the Singaporean national art collection.
Photography inside the building is forbidden.
