In Wellesley, near the southbound lanes of I-95/Route 128, there is a waterworks building with a pointed spire-like cupola. The spire is on the southwest end of the building. The cupola protrudes from the roof apex and is set such that its sides are 90 degrees from the building walls. Above the base, there are a series of light-colored horizontal vents, then a fluted four-sided inverted cone tops it. The cap and a wind vane with cardinal points top the cone. The spire stands about 10 feet above the roof of the building.
To get to the building, from I-95/Route 128, take Exit 20B to Route 9 west, then at the first overpass (Ceder Street), take a right just before the overpass. Travel north and take a right onto Barton Road, just after a parking lot. Follow Barton Road through a housing development to a wooded section and the waterworks building on the right. The building has a stone that has "Wellesley -1885- Waterworks" on it.
