The Lake Okareka Walkway is part of a local project to improve water quality and re-junvenate habitat for wildlife in the Rotorua area. The 7 km walkway runs along the edge of Lake Okareka, past some beautiful wetland. Landcare Okareka volunteers have been doing their bit towards enhancing the biodiversity in the Lake Okareka area, with planting, mulching and caring for the track area.
Mary Madsen is recognised for her long services to the Lake Okareka Community and the Lake Okareka Ratepayers and Residents Association.
