From the Southern NROTC website, located here, a brief statement is The Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) Unit, established at Southern University in 1971, provides an opportunity for mentally, morally, and physically qualified students at Southern University, Louisiana State University, Southeastern Louisiana University and Baton Rouge Community College to compete for commissions in the United States Navy or Marine Corps.
