"Home of Champions" is an entirely appropriate theme for this Waikato town. Cambridge’s Sports and Equine Walks of Fame currently contain 31 outstanding sportspeople and 19 outstanding horses. Over the past 50 years, Cambridge has had a major influence on Australia’s greatest horse race - the Melbourne Cup. 13 of the cup’s winners were bred here.

Another famous name from this town is that of the equestrian double Olympic gold medal winner Mark Todd.
Lake Karapiro, recognised as one of the premium rowing lakes in the world, is close by, producing several world rowing champions, notably Rob Waddell and the Evers-Swindell twins, Georgina and Caroline, Mahe Drysdale and James Dallinger.
World Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist cyclist Sarah Ulmer also lives and trains in Cambridge and Joelle King, winner of the Australian Open squash title in 2009, hails from the town. Former New Zealand and Australasian champion archer Brooke La Pine also called Cambridge home for 23 years.

The beautiful tree-town of Cambridge certainly deserves to call itself the "Home of Champions".
