This memorial was placed in honor of eastern Henrico residents who died during combat in WW II. In this memorial, the sculpture of an open book with the dedication and the names of those honored rests on a pedestal. It is located in a small green area in front of the Dabbs House, which is part of the Eastern Henrico Government Complex. Dabbs House has a rich Civil War history as it was the first headquarters for General Robert E. Lee after he assumed command of the Army of Northern Virginia in 1862. Two Civil War markers describing those details are located nearby. The house is also a Civil War museum and is open to the public from 12-4 on weekdays.
