The Battle of Glendale (a.k.a. Frayser's Farm, Frazier's Farm, Nelson's Farm, or Riddell's Shop) took place near the intersection of Darbytown Road and Charles City Road, an area called Riddell's Shop. Generals A.P. Hill and James Longstreet engaged Union forces at this located after hearing the planned artillery fire signal from General Benjamin Huger. Huger, however, was stuck on Charles City Road and fired upon a Union division nearby - he had not reached the battlefield. Stonewall Jackson was also engaged in a separate artillery duel at White Oak Swamp and would miss the battle. Without reinforcements, General Robert E. Lee's plan to converge on the Union army failed. The Federals retreated south on Willis Church Road that night.
Frazier's Farm or Glendale Battlefield
North and south of this point lay the line of battle in which the Confederate commands of James Longstreet and A.P. Hill engaged indecisively the Federal forces in the fourth battle of the Seven Days’ Campaign. This spot marks the furthest Federal advance, June 30, 1862.

About the Battlefield Markers (Source: National Park Service):

This is one in a series of 61 markers erected beginning in 1925 to identify the battlefields around Richmond. The tablets were the work of the Battlefield Markers Association, a group of historians committed to commemorating the Richmond battlefields. Most prominent among the association's members was Dr. Douglas Southall Freeman, the eminent biographer of George Washington and Robert E. Lee. The work of Dr. Freeman and the Association ultimately led to the purchase of battlefield lands and the establishment of Richmond National Battlefield Park in 1936.
