Standpipes are an old but reliable hydro technology. They have smaller "footprints" than a water tank. (Actually, a water tank is a short standpipe atop a metal tower.)
This standpipe is on a hill overlooking the town, which allows gravity to create pressure for water distribution. It holds 200,000 gallons.
Directions: From downtown Hillsborough, go north on Churton and turn left onto West Orange Street. The tank is about 0.3 mile on the right, in the northeast quadrant of the intersection with N. Hassell Street.
