This monument is located near the center of the Girard community Cemetery. It looks as though it is placed on the highest point of cemetery ground.

The inscription on the base stone is as follows:
With cheers for the livivng and tears for the dead,
We errect this monument to the memory of the heros
Who fought the battles that decided forever
That this Union of states is a nation of free men.
