Greenwood (2,499 pop.) is an industrial town with its business district chiefly along the highway that runs north and south through its center. The principal industries are an automobile-parts factory and a large canning company. Many of the inhabitants are employed in the car shops of the Big Four Railroad in Beech Grove, near Indianapolis.

Now a bedroom community of 36,037 (2000 census) for Indianapolis served by Interstate 65 and US31. Retail at the Greenwood Park Mall now is the major industry. The JT Pope Canning factory has been converted to a small business location.
