The most prestigious display of christmas lighting in the country can be seen in Ponsonby's Franklin Road in Auckland from December 1st, thanks to the generosity of the residents who proudly decorate their homes every year with millions of lights.

Residents of Ponsonby’s Franklin Road will switch on their Christmas lights on 1st December to reveal the most amazing street displays down the entire length of Franklin Road. These private house displays are actually very public, the residents first started decorating their houses 16 years ago, and every night in December the street is thronged by enchanted children and families wandering the inner city boulevard taking in the spectacular lightshow.

The creative Christmas illuminations have become one of the city’s biggest attractions during the festive season, and can cause traffic delays.
People are advised to catch the Link bus, or use nearby car parks and admire the lights on foot to keep traffic flowing in the Ponsonby area.
The street contains coffee vendors and entertainment to add to the christmas spirit. Crowds of people flock to the area to enjoy these fabulous light displays which vary each year.
Access: from Ponsonby Road, drive down Franklin Road, traffic can be very slow but who cares? There's certainly plenty to see including the Ponsonby street lights. However, the displays in Franklin Road are actually best viewed by walking down the street, there is just so much to see.
