Shadow Lawn was built in 1927 for Hubert T. Parsons, president of the F.W. Woolworth Company. The building stands on the former site of Woodrow Wilson's estate, of the same name, which was razed during a fire. Parsons was financially ruined by the Great Depression and the house was sold in 1939 for $100. It became part of Monmouth College in 1956. The college has placed a marker on the Woodrow Wilson Hall commemorating the home.

It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1985.

In 2004, the college was attempting to raise funds to restore the building.
