From the inventory: "A free-standing, eight hundred million-to-one scale model of a DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) molecule. The sculpture is a representation of a double helix made with stainless steel spirals holding brightly-colored "chemical bases" that form the genetic code. The bases are colored green, yellow, blue, and pink, and are connected by stainless steel rods representing hydrogen bonds. The sculpture is placed on a rubber mat and anchored to the ground with five explanatory exhibit panels placed around it.

The sculpture is a gift from Kenneth H. Hofmann, with partial funding from The Dow Chemical Company. It was designed by Michael E. Jantzen, and engineered by the Materials Engineering Center of Dow Plastics and Western Division Manufacturing, both business groups of the Dow Chemical Company. The sculpture was fabricated by In-Land Technologies Service. The sculpture is part of an educational program developed at Lawrence Hall of Science for children to learn about DNA and is designed as a teaching tool for them to climb on."
