Built in 1896 the Dunedin Prison has since been retired. Presently its use is still undecided.

Having served since 1896, H.M. Prison is located immediately behind the Dunedin courthouse. Having been recently retired in favour of the modern Otago Correctional Facility in Milburn some 50 km south. Today the fate of the prison remains in question as different parties discuss possible uses.
