This is the southernmost point of State Highway 1, which runs the length of New Zealand. And it is, perhaps, the most photographed point in the country with tourist after tourist lining up to get their picture taken here.

Stirling Point or Lands End marks the southern terminus of SH 1, which is the only numbered highway to be on both the North and South islands.
Many tourists take a few moments to look at the view and get their photo taken by the sign. Then hop in the car to drive away. But there is more to Stirling Point than most see at first sight. You can walk the Fouveaux Walkway around Bluff Hill. Take the Glory Track to the top of the hill, or just wonder about this rather scenic point.
Yet few know that this is not the furthest south point of the South Island. That distinction goes to Slope Point, some 49.82 km to the east of here.
