This skiff is the most common type of boat used for harvesting oysters in Apalachicola Bay. this unique boat is able to cross open bodies of rough water and has a shallow enough draft to to cross tidal flats. Used for many years, these harvesting boats are usually homemade and vary from 19 to 25 feet long. Features include a flat bottom, wide decks, and small cabin at the stern. Wide decks are useful for standing on while operating the tongs to collect the oysters. (text taken from a sign by the boat)
