Huntersville is a small community located about 6-miles east of Marlinton in Pocahontas County, West Virginia. This area served as a trading post and rendezvous site for early trappers and hunters exploring the western frontier of Virginia and it became known as “Huntersville.” Huntersville served as the county seat of Pocahontas County until 1891 when residents voted to move the seat of government to Marlinton. The Huntersville Presbyterian Church is located at the center of the community near the intersection of Route 39 and County Road 21. The church was built in 1854 and served as a hospital for a brief period during the Civil War. The Huntersville Presbyterian was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
