Built in 1923, this marker, located in the median of Huey P. Long Avenue between 1st and 2nd Streets in Gretna, faces the Mississippi River to the northeast.
A Gretna engineer, Jacob Huber, formed the Jefferson Memorial Organization in 1918 to raise funds for a World War I memorial. It was later dedicated to all of Jefferson Parish's veterans and contains the names of Confederate, the Spanish American War, World War I, and World War II soldiers
Used in a multitude of ceremonies and commemorative events, The Arch’s main celebration comes when it hosts a Memorial Service to commemorate fallen military heroes.
