"Constructed in 1912-13 as the fifth courthouse in Benton's public square, this building has continuously held the circuit court and county offices serving Scott County since its completion.  The building reflects its significance as the seat of county government through its impressive size and massing.  Designed by H.H. Hohenschild, a prolific designer of courthouses and public buildings in the state, the courthouse is a landmark in Benton and the county." - National Register Nomination Form
