A sculpture erected by the people of San Jose in honor of Tony Ridder, a publisher and philanthropist. An empty (except for rainwater) pair of tennis shoes stand on the ground in front of a commemorative plaque. The plaque reads:

TONY RIDDER "PUBLISHER, PHILANTHROPIST, AND FRIEND TO SAN JOSE"

THESE SHOES SYMBOLIZE THE LONG RUN THAT TONY RIDDER MADE TO SUPPORT AND IMPROVE SAN JOSE. THEY ARE BIG SHOES TO FILL. IF OTHERS FILL THEM BY FOLLOWING HIS EXAMPLE OF STRENGTH, SELFLESSNESS AND DEDICATION, TONY RIDDER WILL BE HAPPY INDEED.
