The two orginal inscriptions blocks are still there they are:
(On side of sculpture:) ERECTED/BY/THE WOMANS HUMANE/ASSOCIATION/Mrs. Drew Pruit/Pres./1892
(On opposite side of sculpture:) masters a' his weel earned due/the humble beastie gie:/justice an' mercy's blessings flow/nae less for him than ye:
There are numerous other inscriptions and plaques now that are shown in the photographs.
The refurbishment was funded in part by school children raising "penneys" for the horse depicted on the top of the sculpture. Its name was Penny's Worth.
In 1999 AUI Contractors was hired take on the project of the Horse Fountain. Reconstruct an exact replica of the Horse Fountain that was built in 1870 on the same site. This method used the hand carving of granite and stone to insure the end product was as close to the original as possible.
