There is an extensive network of Mountain Bike trails around the Crater's of the Moon geothermal area at Wairakei Park, just north of Taupo.

Although Mountainbikers share this park with walkers and horses, some trails are marked for MTBs Only. There are miles of trails weaving through the forested reserve.
Tracks are Graded:
Grade1: Fairly flat, wide and smooth, forest roads, Beginners.
Grade2: Gentle Climbs and easy avoidable obstacles. Beginners.
Grade3: Challenging, steep slopes, tricky obstacles, narrow track, require some experience and fitness.
Grade4: Long steep climbs, steep drop offs, gnarly obstacles to avoid or jump over.
Grade5: Killer climbs, dangerous drop offs, sharp corners, numerous tricky obstacles, some sections safer and easier to walk.

Co-ordinates are for the parking area and trail heads, with two map panel boards to show the linking trails through the whole Park.
