At the December, 1906 meeting the board knew that their dream would become a reality because “word had been received from Mr. Carnegie that he would give $12,000 to the library fund if a corresponding increased amount would be assured by the proper taxing bodies for maintenance.” Most of the local funds came from subscriptions from residents, with assistance from levies from the town of Crown Point and Center Township. The Carnegie Library of Crown Point opened its doors on the former O.G. Wheeler property at 223 S. Main Street on February 12, 1908.
By the 1960’s the library was outgrowing its building. In 1962 the board established a Cumulative Building Fund in anticipation of needed expansion. After surveying the community and hiring a consultant, it was recommended that the present site be retained with the addition of the property at the rear extending to 214 S. Court St.
The Carnegie Library is still owned and being used as office space for the Crown Point Community Library.
