The 'Phanom Swai Forest Park' is a major public park in the Surin province of north eastern Thailand. The park provides a number of activities: walking trails, cooking facilities, natural spots, and a dozen or so Buddhist sites. The 'Big Buddha' is one of these.

The 'Big Buddha' is constructed of a bright, white material, ~20m high, and is a striking piece of craftsmanship. It is reached after a climbing 255 steps (I counted, but I was interrupted by my fellow climbers who wished to speak to me). Along the steps are bells, which visitors are encouraged to ring. The sound is deafening if more than a few are rung.

At the top is the Buddha statue. It is relatively new, but the site has long been a shrine. The view from the top is obscured by trees, but from behind the Buddha an excellent view of the surrounds can be had.
