This bell was originally placed in the clock tower of the Union County Courthouse in 1900. It chimed the hour throughout the day and was rung as a public alarm when necessary. In 1960 the tower was removed. The bell was placed on the courthouse lawn where is rested for 15 years. In 1975 the bell and most of the clockworks from the tower were encased in a glass enclosure on the lawn and are preserved to this day.
