RECHARGE LAKE (.pdf) was the winning entry in a "name the lake" contest during the 1990-1991 school year.

The Upper Big Blue Natural Resources District's Ground Water Recharge Demonstration Project had constructed the dam and lake, and associated facilities, to test its effect on ground water levels and water quality. Construction competed in early 1991, and the lake filled with one big thunderstorm. The story is summarized on pgs. 47-49 of 25 Years, 1972-1997 (.pdf).

The original research projects are completed. The lake and surrounding recreation area provide fishing and other outdoor recreation a half-mile west of York. The Upper Big Blue NRD still uses the monitoring wells to check groundwater levels.
