This historic tank is visible to the north when standing at the old Burke County Court House. According to the Sanborn Fire Map for 1930, it holds 60,000 gallons atop a 75-foot tower.
A name plate at the bottom of the standpipe declares that the tank was built by Chicago Bridge and Iron Works in 1926. At that time, it served Morganton Full Fashion Hosiery. Today, it has a logo on the south side for Morganton Trading Company.
