This is the Edinburg Cemetery in Edinburg N.Y. and I didn't realize it until right now but there is also a benchmark in this cemetery. I used the posted coords to not only get into the cemetery but it should put you right on the benchmark as well. As soon as I get some pics I'll submit that too. Now I mentioned in my short description that this is a cemetery within a cemetery and that is all because of one man that is also buried in this cemetery. This man changed the face of N.Y. State and his handiwork can be seen from miles above. I'll be submitting him next. Anyways, when they changed the Sacandaga River into Sacandaga Lake they needed to relocate the graves in the valley to higher ground. Many of the graves here are from the old Batchellerville Cemetery which is now somewhere's under water. Of course they didn't get all of the graves and there was reports of coffins popping up to the surface after the valley was flooded. The ones that were moved were relocated here and other cemeteries from the other towns, villages and hamlets were also relocated to other cemeteries. The far back left hand corner contains most of the batchellerville cemetery residents. This cemetery could get you a geocache, 3 waymarks and a benchmark. I'm not sure how that works yet. I'll find out if a benchmark can be a waymark as well or if they are seperate. Please be respectful at all times and if someone is mourning or a funeral is going on then come back for this waymark at another time. There is 1803 year round residents and counting.
