Initial project comes from the 1969. Construction of the sundial took place at the beginning of the 70th years (custom installation took place after the death of the author).
The author of this unique clock is a sculptor Zdenek Simek (1927-1970). He was an amateur astronomer. He was inspired by an ancient stone observatory in India.
14 different concepts of these issue where found in the estate of Zdenek Simek, what shoes the seriousness he paid to this issue.
He consulted an astronomer and the cooperate with an mathematician in the final phases of the solution, because it was necessary to determine the location and dimensions of all pieces of this dial.
Clocks are unique, not only because of its size but also as an architectural sculpture of the stone blocks of Zbuzany limestone and its horizontal placement. In 2001 the dials where repaired.

Autorem techto unikátních hodin je sochar Zdenek Šimek (1927-1970). Hodiny vznikly v souvislosti s moderní zástavbou ve Zvolenské a Vodnanské ulici provádené v 60. a 70. Letech. Prvotní návrhy pocházejí z roku 1969, realizace hodin probehla pocátkem 70. let (vlastní instalace probehla po smrti autora). Mesto hodiny prevzalo do svého vlastnictví 6.12.1971.
Autor, jehož oblíbenou oblastí amatérského zájmu byla astronomie, se inspiroval kamennými observatoremi staroveké Indie. O tom s jakou vážností se Zdenek Šimek zabýval tímto tématem svedcí 14 ruzných návrhu rešení plastiky prímo pro Prachatice, které se zachovaly v jeho pozustalosti. Návrhy konzultoval s astronomem a pro konecné rešení byla nezbytná spolupráce též s matematikem, nebot bylo nutno urcit polohy a rozmerové veliciny všech soucástí hodin.
Hodiny jsou unikátní nejen svojí velikostí, ale též rešením jako architektonické plastiky z kamenných bloku ze zbuzanského vápence a svým horizontálním umístením. V roce 2001 probehla jejich oprava.
