The lighthouse was established in 1876 (the station 1856) and has been inactive since 1961.
This is a 46 foot pyramidal wood tower with a lantern, and was formerly attacted to a 1 1/2 story wood keeper's house.
The lighthouse is painted white.
The lighthouse was replaced by the Malpeque Harbour Approach Range lights. In 1989 the keeper's house was destroyed and the light tower was relocated by helicopter to Cabot Beach Provincial Park.
Recently the lighthouse was used in the filming of the television series Emily of New Moon - which is filmed in the park.
The lighthouse is owned by Tourism PEI.
