Captain Joshua L. Chandler's grave is located along Main Street in/on Chincoteague Island. The "Captain Chandler Cemetery" only has one person - Captain Chandler himself.
Drive to the north end of Main Street in Chincoteague and you will no doubt find his grave. The grave is on the right side of the street just as you are approaching the turn around circle at the "end" of the street (where the pavement ends).
His tombstone has broken into 3 pieces but put together again by "friends" and now is cemented into a concrete slab on top of his grave.
His gravestone states:
Farewell wife and children dear
I am not dead but sleeping here
As I am someday you will be
Prepare for death and follow me.
He was born in October 1829, but there is no record of the actual date of his birth. Unfortunately, Waymarking dates must include a actual 'day'. So as not to be inaccurate, I will not include a born date below.
First Name: Joshua
Last Name: Chandler
Died: 10/21/1877
