This tree is the eponym of the Moose Tree Nature Preserve, a part of Lake Orion Community Schools. The antlerless moose head is an oak gall, plant growth stimulated by a fungus, mite, or other parasite. It is not harmful to the tree.
The moose tree is at the eastern edge of the nature trails behind the nature center. The trails are open daily from dawn until dusk. See the website for the nature center's hours.
