Professor John Allen Holt began his service at Oak Ridge Institute in 1852. He was hired as Principal in 1875. Professor Holt was a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan. In 1879 Professor Holt hired his brother , Martin Hicks Holt, as Co-Principal. The Holts would lead and build Oak Ridge Institute for the next 39 Years.
Professor J.A. Holt ’s service as principal would be from 1875-1914.
The Gazebo over the well was erected in 1921 by their brother Robert Oscar Holt.
