The Turangi Fire Station attends road accidents on the famous Desert Road, as well as forest fires, house fires and the usual car crashes and other emergencies. In winter specially on icy nights and mornings, it is quite common to hear the siren go off at all hours of the night and day.
The local fire station has 20 Volunteers including 7 Females who attend an average of around 200 calls a year.
The siren wails about 4 - 5 times for each callout, and can be heard all over Turangi.
