This sheltered bay is called Slaughter Bay – it’s name is not as ominous as it sounds as the word "slaughter" comes from an Old English word meaning "slow-moving water".

Norfolk Island's rugged coastline plunging into the blue South Pacific Ocean make for some beautiful sights.
Almost every day from October to May offers pleasant beach weather, but the very best months for the beach are from December to April.
Slaughter Bay stretches across Kingston waterfront, just around the corner from Emily Bay, and is protected from the ocean's onslaught by a coral reef.
On a calm day, Slaughter Bay is a great spot for snorkelling and if the swell is right the waves pick up nicely for a surf on the reef. The marine life on the reef is abundant with colourful tropical fish quite common among the coral.
Glass-bottom boat Reef tours are available across Slaughter Bay with the boat launching from the beach in nearby Emily Bay.
