At the Battle of Monmouth, General George Washington forced the retreat of the British Army...a triumph for both General Washington and the Continental Army. On the northwest corner of the historic Monmouth Battlefield, the Old Tennent Church was used as a field hospital for wounded soldiers. Now the graves of soldiers from this, and many future wars stand in honor.

In the waves of graves that sit in the left, front of the church, this time worn headstone marks the grave of Captain David Baird, who was part of Colonel Forman's Regiment of the 1 NJ Militia in the Revolutionary War.
