Indian Head, at the lower end of Franconia Notch, might have been the state symbol itself, had it not been out-shown by the clearly more Yankee countenance to its north. This 100-foot ledge on Mt. Pemigewasset can be seen from Route 3, but it’s a fleeting glimpse through the trees. The best view is from the platform on the tower at the Indian Head Resort, in Lincoln. The saw-tooth line of pointed fir trees above the profile enhances the image by looking like a feathered head dress.
