Mt. Auburn is situated at the edge of Watertown, Massachusetts, off Mount Auburn Street. It is a gorgeous property where people can stroll through and climb the tower.
The cemetery is about 175 acres large and has over 30,000 monuments planted. It was established in 1831 and initiated a great age of building cemeteries.
Among those interred here include:
-Nathaniel Bowditch (1773 - 1838), navigator and mathematician
-Charles Bulfinch (1763 - 1844), architect
-Mary Baker Eddy (1821 - 1910), religious leader
-Oliver Wendell Holmes (1809 - 1894), author and poet
-Edwin H. Land (1909 - 1991), inventor, photography pioneer, and founder of Polaroid.
The landscape is varied and include many different arrangements. There are graves with ornate and plain headstones, crypts, and memorials. There are ponds. There is a tower where you can walk up and view the cemetery from above.
This location is well worth a visit!
