Fine bronze looking statue of a WW 2 period "Joe". It is located in the Houma/Terrebonne Veterans Memorial Park, in front of the Southdown Plantation museum. Statue is to the left or south of the "main" entrance. He cannot be missed, lifesized and in all his glory. I searched for any artist or information both online and asking folks in area, not much could be found on either the artist or person depicted. The small dedication reads:
Dedicated to WWII Veterans. "Soldiers of Freedom" They do have occasional ceremonies and other small functions at the park facility. Park is nicely landscaped. Has other war memorials, memorials for police/firefightes and dedicated memorials for specific veterans (trees, benches, bricks and pavers). Park also has a bell, rung on special occasions or memorials. From the park, you can walk across Little Bayou Black and visit the Southdown Plantation museum.
website. On weekends, easy parking across street in some medical office lots. There is also parking at the plantation area.
