The Gould Nature Trail takes a short loop through a redwood grove across from the Visitors Center for the Humboldt Redwood State Park.

Redwoods Survive the Test of Time.

Follow this trail to explore how the adaptations or special qualitites of redwoods allow them to survive in an ever changing environment. Discover how redwoods survive fire storms and floods to reach hieghts of over 370 feet and ages over 2000 years.

Look Out

Poison oak commonly grows along this trail. If you come in contact with this vine its oils may cause you to get a red itchy rash up to 36 hours later.

Leaves of Three Let it Be

In the Spring the leaves look green. In the late Summer the leaves begin to turn red. Poison oak looses its leaves in the Winter. You may only see bare stems coming out of the grounds.

The Humboldt Redwood State Park is located in one of the largest stands of Redwoods in the world.  The nearby Eel River Valley provides the perfect conditions for these ancient giants to grow to incredible heights and to over 2,000 years old.

Located along the Eel River in northern California, Humboldt Redwoods State Park contains some of the world's most majestic ancient redwood groves. The park encompasses over 53,000 acres, including 17,000 acres of old-growth coast redwoods.

Humboldt Redwood Interpretive Association

Back in 1921 the first Redwood Grove was dedicated, and thanks to the Save the Redwood League and a handful of concerned citizens, we now have wonderful areas like this to enjoy.

In 1921 Save the Redwoods League dedicated the first Memorial Grove, Colonel Raynal C. Bolling Memorial Grove, in what is now known as Humboldt Redwoods State Park. Today the park contains a diverse coast redwood ecosystem, which includes Rockefeller Forest, the largest remaining old-growth forest in the world, and the entire Bull Creek watershed.

Save the Redwoods League

The Park is chalk full of wonderful activities and interpretive trails and ranger led hikes.  The peak season is in the summer, but spring and fall can be very quiet and peaceful.

With more than 250 camp sites, 100 miles of hiking, biking, and riding trails, and the scenic 32-mile Avenue of the Giants, Humboldt Redwoods State Park offers something for everyone. Whether you have just a single day to visit or a week long vacation to explore, a journey into the redwood forest is sure to be an awe-inspiring experience. The park is open year 'round and recreational activities are available throughout the four seasons.
