Sim Smith Covered Bridge gets its name from a nearby landowner named Simeon Smith. It is thought that this is just the second covered bridge built by Joseph Britton in Parke County. Like his first effort, the Narrows Covered Bridge, this one betrays his inexperience in the quality of his arches. Britton would later be noted for his engineering skill and attention to detail, but he still had much to learn when he built this bridge in 1883.

This is a single Burr Arch truss with a span of 81' and a total length of 102'. The portal is 15' wide with clearance of 12.5'. The abutments are of hewn red sandstone.

The bridge is still in service, carrying CR 50W over Leatherwood Creek,, about 2 miles southeast of the town of Montezuma.
Current Condition of Bridge: Bridgehunter.com describes the substructure and deck as "satisfactory" and the superstructure as "poor".
