Post Office Address: 5066 N. Dos Cabezas Rd., Cochise.
County of Post Office: Cochise County.
This semi-ghost town has a magnificently kept school, and many run down buildings. The hotel is on the Nat. Reg. Post Office is still operating. Post Office was established in 1886.
There are still people living here and the post office is still active. Named after the Chiricahua Apache chief, Cochise it is located four miles south of I-10, west of Willcox. A railroad station was established in 1887, and was the junction of the Southern Pacific and the Arizona Eastern railroads. It was a shipping point for the old Pearce mines.
The town's first telegrapher started the hotel figuring that people who got off at the station ought to have a place to stay. The hotel originally opened only with beds and rooms but the "new" addition, the dining hall, came along in 1896. You can still stay here but you have to have reservations. The hotel is on the National Register of Historical Places. Post office established July 21, 1886.
Cochise is located off of Highway 191 South in Cochise County, close by to the Willcox Playa, I-10 and Dragoon Road.
