St. Helen's is properly called St. Helen Stonegate, has stood on this site for over 1000 years,the church can be broadly described as 15th.c in style,the present layout of the nave dates from 1885.

There have been many changes in the history of the church,including being partially demolished in the 1550's.
in 1805 the west front was rebuilt on a grander scale.
York is noted for it's many medieval churches,at that time there were over 40 in the city centre,today there are still around 20.
St Helen's suffered war damage when it was bombed on the 29th. of April 1942.
Today the church holds a Sunday service at 11am.
The church is always open to the public.
